With the bumper bank holiday weekend we expect many people may take advantage of the opportunity to run during the day, or will be too busy drinking to the Queens “platty joobs” to make it to club.
Consequently there will be no official club run on Thursday 2nd June. All will return back to normal on Tuesday 7th with a lap of Eckington Woods.
The final race in the 2022 inter-club cross country series took us to Worksop on what was a glorious sunny winters morning.
40 kestrels turned out to fight for the coveted XC shield, rumoured to have eluded us for 10 years.
Conditions were as good as could be hoped for after the very wet weather of the previous weeks, the benefits of a varied course with only a few sections of mud (and it wouldn’t be cross country without that!)
Every runner was cheered over the line, and once all were home we made our way back to Manton Sports centre for a nail biting wait for the results.
First up, results for the Worksop event.
1st Place Men – Clowne
1st Place Women – Retford
Next up, results for the overall series
1st Place Men – Clowne
1st Place Women – Worksop
1st Place Club Overall – KILLAMARSH!!!!!!!
Rest assured that those of us who were there for the results made enough noise for the whole of Worksop to hear us when the winner was announced.
Worth noting that the 1st place position for the women’s team came down to accumulated points over the series with Worksop and Retford coming joint 1st under the usual points system. It was a very close competition!
We also think it was a resounding success for the new scoring system which sees 7 runners (men and women) score and the subsequent 10 runners deducting a point. It made for a much closer race than we have seen in previous years and encouraged more runners to participate.
Hopefully 2023 will see a return to the full cross country experience, with indoor mixing and the much missed buffet. A huge thank you to everyone involved in organising a brilliant series this year despite the restrictions.

Entries are now open for the 2022 edition of our Three Lakes Classic! It will be held on 18th June at 11am in Rother Valley. More info and entry can be found here.
Entries are limited to 250 so get in there quick! This is usually a very popular race and as we haven’t been able to host it for the past 2 years we anticipate a lot of interest.
A reminder for Killamarsh Kestrels, we don’t accept club entries until we have a full set of marshals, reach out to Rachel Cadey if you can volunteer.
