October 2024 Killamarsh Kestrels news
This edition celebrates the success of Kestrels coming together at the Round Rotherham event as well as many individual achievements. This October, we have also continued to welcome new members to our club and we are delighted you have chosen to run with us.
Be sure to read to the bottom of this one as there are lots of dates for your running calendars.
- Round Rotherham Run – 23 Kestrels took part in three mixed teams and achieved positions 1, 3 and 4 in the mixed rankings. A real celebration of the team spirit of our running club.
Shout outs to the individuals who ran the entire 50 miles – Abby and Jack H, Steve C, Tom H and Mark P. Well done to Abby for her 3rd place. Also an extra well done to Louise who stepped up to run two legs of the event.
- York Marathon – Jon C smashed his previous marathon time, taking 17 minutes off his previous PB, completing the York Marathon in 03:29:13. On a very rainy day! Well done 🏅
- York Marathon – Jemma W finished in 04:06:25 just ONE week after completing a 50K ultra (see below!) 🏅
- Ladybower Ultra – John W, Adam D and Jemma W completed this epic run. 50K and almost 4,000 ft of elevation. Absolutely smashing photos as well!

- Hadrian’s Wall Half Marathon – Not one to shy away from a challenging run, Kati completed this event for the second time running. Well done! 🏛️
- Changsha Half Marathon, China – Jasper represented the Kestrels in China. A fantastic run Jasper, well done. 🏅
- Kielder Half Marathon – Of course King Kev couldn’t complete a simple half marathon and instead chose this challenging number. Finishing in 02:04:36. Amazing! 👏
- Monsal Trail Half – Well done to Rob W who finished in 01:38:40 in position number 32. A great run! 🏅
- Worksop Half Marathon – 15 Kestrels took part, with many shaving significant amounts of time off their previous half marathon PBs. Kati took 30 minutes off hers, Andy HR and James around 10 mins and Louise and others had PBs too. Well done to all 15 – Chris M, Adam D, Jack H, Abby H, Louise GP, Andy HR, Rachel C, James H, Paul S, Stephen P, Kati WC, Phil C, Andy P, Laura B and Julia W. Great turn out!
- South Yorkshire XC – the series has begun and Kev, Mark D, Louise and Nat N have competed so far. Best of luck for the future races. 👏
Dates for your diary –
* Inter club cross country league – this is a series of races hosted by 5 local clubs, including us. You must also be a paid-up member to join and we also ask for a £2 charity donation per event. They are very popular feel-good events which include a buffet! Captains Amy C and Jon C are recruiting you and would like you to remember that due to the complicated points system – EVERY RUNNER COUNTS!
- 5th January – Retford
- 19th January – Handsworth
- 2nd February – Clowne
- 16th February – Killamarsh (volunteers needed to marshal the event, please let us know of any family and friends that can help)
- 2nd March – Worksop
*AGM date – Tuesday 19th November 18:30 arrival for a 18:45 meeting start at the West End Hotel, Killamarsh. We are providing free chip butties, let us know in advance if you would like one.
*Track session – Tuesday 12th November at Mount St Mary’s college. Details to be e-mailed the weekend prior. Arrival time from 18:30, start at 18:45. 🏃♀️🏃🏽♂️
*Robin Festive Frolic – 14th December fun run and5K organised by our friends at Rawmarsh Runners, an event to remember Robin Friskney. 🎄
*Presentation evening – 10th December to celebrate the club and individuals, with prizes and food. 🏆
*Christmas fancy dress pub run – 17th December meet at 6:30 at Killamarsh leisure centre. 🎅

And our recent epic parkrun epic snook into November but it is too long a wait to say well done to Mark P on his 300th run, Nat N on her 100th (although we believe it might be more!) James on his 50thand Juliet’s 25th. Also a big well done to Kati’s epic 27:27 PB in Morecombe and Nat B’s 26:09 at North Yorkshire Water Park. Paul M also subbed 27:00 at parkrun last weekend. 👏 👏 👏
