June 24

Hi everyone- hope all is well.  Many thanks to Amy for our June newsletter. Remember if we have missed anything to let Amy know for Julys edition….thanks Amy!!

*June / July round up*

Robin Friskney Memorial Trophy – On 4th June Killamarsh Kestrels hosted Rawmarsh Running club for a relay event at Rother Valley in memory of our running friend, Robin. It was humbling that so many Kestrels came to support and thanks goes to all involved. We hope to make this an annual event. 💛🖤

*Grindleford Fell Race* – 13th June, 15 Kestrels braved the rain and took part in this short but hilly fell race to be rewarded with a burger ⛰️🍔. Well done to Paul, Chris B, Tim F, Kev, Ian W, Sam W, Martin, Matt C, Andy HR, Amy C, James H, Sara HR, Nat B, Rachel C, Kati W. There were a couple of age category prizes as well for Kev, Chris and Nat N 🏆

*Three Lakes Classic* – June 22nd saw the Kestrels host their annual 14 mile trail run that included a new end to the route, our much loved ski slope. ⛷️138 runners took part in total 🏃‍♀🏃🏾‍♂️ We were all touched that day by a participant who completed the event to raise money for a local school. The support of our back markers Nat and Amanda helped to get her around, as did everyone cheering her on along the way 👏.

Thanks goes to all those who volunteered, including Kestrels and family and friends of Kestrels. Events like this simply cannot run with you.

Special thanks goes to the event organiser Rachel who amongst many roles, battled to get a crane moved from the course in time for the event! 🥳

As well as Jon C for developing a timing system that saved an external purchase.

*Round Sheffield Run*🐿️ – Flocks of Kestrels took on the trails and hills in Sheffield over this 2-day run event. The temperature was cooler than normal which may have helped a few PBs. Well done to the 18 Kestrels – Amy C, Katie W, Julia W, Sara HR, Nat B, Rachel C, Alice B, Kate A, Abby H, John W, Scott E, Martin S, Matt C, Stephen M, Andy HR, Stephen P, Phil A, Jack H. And shout out to our second claim Nat N on winning her age category 👏👏

*Handsworth Hobble* – Was a warm evening to say the least 🥵 Nat B, Martin S and Annie M took on those XC hills that we all know so well. Annie cleaned up in the bottles with a top 3 women and a spot prize 🍷

*Burbage Skyline* – The clouds cleared and the evening sun came out as Jon C and Tim F completed the Burbage Skyline run. 🌤️Well done!

*Elmton Chase* – Martin S, Jon C and Louise GP chased this race. Louise was 2nd in her age category and 5th woman overall 🏅

*KMR league continues* – These are a series of races between 3 and 5 miles hosted by clubs around Rotherham. They cost £6 and include food. The next event is at Wentworth on July 17th.

In addition to running, a number of our Kestrels took part in a sprint triathlon at Rother Valley. Well done to Nat, Chris and Jack 🏊‍♀🚴🏽‍♂️🏃🏾‍♂️

***As the newsletter goes to press, Kate and Phil Austin are completing their Race to the Stones Ultra. This 100Km running event is definitely one to be proud of***
