CROSSCOUNTRY 2008
K DAY SUNDAY 2nd MARCH
LOCATION HANDSWORTH
I travelled back from darkest Devon after a week’s hill training on the coastal footpath, all for the big day.
Woke up early and heard the wind, “hate the wind” but no matter what, had to do what a true Kestrel should do, get up and get ready for the big run.
Arrived with plenty of time to spare,” 20mins” so had a good chat with other Kestrels and set our game plan, “enjoy the run and have fun”. That’s the best way to run I think and so did a few more as looking round. I saw some strange men in skirts!!!
Before the start a photo shoot was called for and what a lovely lot we are “see the picture on the cross country site”, then it was up to the start line ready for the starter’s gun (shout).
Off we went some faster than others, but at least we would all meet up at the end “hopefully”.
It was a good run as cross-country go, we had to look very close for any mud and the sun was looking down on us to keep us warm, only problem was the wind “I hate the wind”. A couple of miles into the run and it was smile time again as that photographer was ready with the camera “just at the top of the first steep hill”, was that planned? (see Alan). These photos are all on the web site.
Anyway upwards and upwards we all ran,” not much down hill” all the way to the end. Tired and happy to see that finish line it was then all back to the “pub/club”for that well deserved drink and bite to eat.
Had we done what we had set out to do and won that trophy, wait and wait we had to do until Mick from Handsworth stood up. Was this the time “no” Mick called me to one side and one of the members from Clowne, we have a problem with the scores and it must be sorted before I announce the results he said, we discussed the issue and finally the results could be announced.
